NIKKEI MATSURI

The third annual Nikkei Matsuri is coming on September 5th and 6th at Nikkei Center.

At Nikkei Matsuri, they bring Japan to you and your family and share with you the heart of Nikkei. they celebrate Japanese culture, showing an appreciation of Japanese immigrants and new Canadians, and their contribution to making a strong and vibrant community at Nikkei Place.

日系センター内のミュージアムのイベントのお知らせです。

Mingei refers to “hand-crafted art of ordinary people.” It celebrates the beauty and quiet humility in everyday, ordinary and utilitarian objects created by often unknown craftsmen. This exhibit consists of over 100 works from throughout Japan: charming items of daily use made of wood, bamboo, paper, straw, shell, lacquers, clay, metal, stone and other materials. Presented in collaboration with the Canadian Society for Asian Arts.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Deux Mille Foundation, the BC Arts Council, Kikori Japanese Antiques & Furnishings, the Japan Foundation, the City of Burnaby, the Government of British Columbia, and OMNI TV.

Thousands of Japanese books, comics and magazines on sale for amazing bargain prices! Local food trucks and vendors will be serving up delicious delights. We’ve also got a Kids Zone for the little ones.

Support Nikkei Centre by bringing us your gently used JAPANESE books, comics, magazines. Drop them off in the donation box during facility hours at the Info Desk.

Collection boxes located at Fujiya (Vancouver & Richmond), JTB International (Downtown & Richmond), Coquitlam Japanese Language Academy (Coquitlam), QIC, Suzuya, Gladstone Japanese Language School.

HINA MATSURI

Hinamatsuri is coming March 3rd!

Let’s get together and celebrate for girl’s day!!

Hinamatsuri, also called Doll’s Day or Girls’ Day, is a special day in Japan. Hinamatsuri is celebrated each year on March 3rd. Platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls.

People prepare a special dinner, Chirashi-sushi, Clam soup and Amazake.

And also, we eat Sakura-mochi for dessert.

We have a kit of Chirashi-sushi and topping ingredients, Denbu, Prawn, and Nori.
